BOLIVAR, Mo. – Southwest Baptist University Professor of Mathematics Dr. Kevin Hopkins presented at the annual meeting of the Missouri Section of the MAA (Mathematical Association of America) on April 9-10 at the University of Central Missouri.

Dr. Hopkins’ presentation, “How to Recognize a Parabola, Geogebra Style,” emphasized the December 2009 issue of The American Mathematical Monthly, which had a paper entitled ''How to Recognize a Parabola'' by Bettina and Tom Richmond. In the paper the authors state, with proof, twelve theorems that are true of parabolas (and only parabolas). They also gave a figure to illustrate each proof. Dr. Hopkins’ presentation provided interactive versions of these figures using Geogebra to provide additional visual examples of these theorems.
