BOLIVAR, Mo. – Southwest Baptist University invites the public to a free presentation, “The Curious Case of South West Baptist Academy of William Jewell College, Western Baptist College & The Fire of 1910,” on Thursday, May 13, from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. in Meyer Recital Hall, Casebolt Music and Fine Arts building on the Bolivar campus.

The presentation is designed to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the fire that destroyed the college on June 1, 1910, and address some of the questions that continue to swirl around that devastating fire:
Why was William Jewell College involved?
Why did Western Baptist College (African-American) hold a deed to SWBC?
Why didn't the fire department respond immediately when first called?
Was it arson or just an unfortunate accident?

According to the SBU Archives, “You will see the images.  You will see the headlines.  You will hear the words of the people of that era.  To get a true sense of history.... attend this special event.”
