BOLIVAR, Mo.Pianist David Murray, a 1993 graduate of Southwest Baptist University, will present a guest artist recital on Sunday, May 2 at 2:00 p.m. in Meyer Recital Hall on the Bolivar campus.  Murray has become a highly sought-after solo and collaborative performer who “brings subjectivity and emotionality to the piano he so expertly, yet sensuously plays” (www.summitrecords.com).  The recital is free and open to the public.

In celebration of the 200th anniversary of Robert Schumann’s birth, Murray will present an all-Schumann program, including performances of Waldszenen, Papillons, and the Fantasy in C Major.

After receiving a Bachelor of Music degree from SBU, Murray earned a Master of Music degree from the University of Kentucky in 1995 and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Arizona State University in 2002.

He has been featured as a soloist on two recordings:  Kentucky Kaleidoscope (1997) and Destination MCC (2001).   In June 2003, Murray released his first collaborative recording, Blue: The Complete Cabaret Songs of William Bolcom and Arnold Weinstein, described as "exemplary" by BBC Music Magazine and "effortlessly musical" by the Arizona Republic.

In 2005 he made his Carnegie Hall debut, a performance described by the New York Concert Review as "first-rate" and "perfect."  A second recording, Murray’s arrangement for soprano and piano of Elvis Costello’s song cycle, The Juliet Letters, was released in 2006.

Murray currently serves on the faculty of Georgia Southern University as an Assistant Professor and Chair of the Piano Area.  He is the son of Ken and Tanny Murray of Humansville.
