Free health screenings and science explorations for homeschooled kids

Springfield, Mo. - The 5th Annual Homeschool Health Fair and new Science Exploration Event will be held Friday, October 21, from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., at St. John's College of Nursing and Health Sciences, 4431 S. Fremont in Springfield. The event is sponsored by Southwest Home Education Ministry (SHEM) and St.John's College of Nursing and Health Sciences of Southwest Baptist University. The fair is for all homeschooled kids in Southwest Missouri.

Screenings and services will include; height, weight, body mass index, and blood pressure measurements, hearing and vision testing, and dental screening. Free flu vaccinations will also be offered by the Springfield-Greene County Health Department.

American Red Cross, YMCA, Safe Kids Springfield, and College of Nursing students will be providing educational opportunities including; hand-washing/illness prevention, diabetes and obesity, nutrition and healthy eating, sports and physical activity, and kid safety education.

Exploring the Biomedical Sciences, hosted by SBU's College of Nursing faculty and staff, is also new this year. All age groups will be able to experience interactive learning exercises in anatomy and physiology, microbiology, and chemistry.
