Two new department chairs at SBU

BOLIVAR, Mo. — With the beginning of the Fall 2013 semester just two weeks away, Southwest Baptist University has two new department chairs.

Shelley Kilpatrick, Ph.D., professor of psychology, is now chair of the Department of Behavioral Sciences. She received her Ph.D. from University of North Carolina–Chapel Hill and has taught at SBU since 2003. Kilpatrick assumes the role of department chair after the promotion of Kevin Schriver, Psy.D., to dean of the College of Education and Social Sciences Aug. 1.

Tom Douglas, M.F.A., is new to the SBU faculty serving as associate professor of art and chair of the Department of Art. He earned his Master of Fine Arts from the University of Mississippi and has taught art since 1983. He comes from Itawamba Community College in Fulton, Miss., where he was department chair.

Welcome Week orientation for freshmen and new transfer students begins Thursday, Aug. 15, and all other students return Saturday, Aug. 17, and Sunday, Aug. 18, with fall classes beginning Monday, Aug. 19. Formal convocation is Wednesday, Aug. 21.
