Gilmore to speak at SBU’s Spring Commencement May 18

BOLIVAR, Mo. — Chaplain Col. Gary D. Gilmore, state chaplain for the Missouri National Guard, will deliver the commencement address for Southwest Baptist University’s Spring Commencement at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 18, on the Merrill Burnidge Memorial Forum on the main campus in Bolivar.

Chaplain Gilmore is a 1979 SBU graduate and has a Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He is a former member of the SBU Board of Trustees, and his wife, Susan, is a current SBU Trustee.

Minda Cox of Bolivar will deliver the Bob R. Derryberry Senior Address. Senior Music will be provided by Amy Jo McDevitt and Brandon Edward Burns accompanied by Michael Womack.

Four retiring faculty members will be recognized: Cathy Beck, PT, Ph.D., ACCE, a professor in the department of physical therapy; Dianna Callahan, lecturer of art; Tom Hollis, Ph.D., professor of education; and Rosalyn Snellen, Ph.D., senior professor of biology.

Cindy Rice, director of private scholarship development, also will be recognized for her retirement that was effective March 31.

Award presentations will include the student Life Beautiful Awards and the Orien B. Hendrex Distinguished Teacher Award.
