BOLIVAR, Mo. – The Chamber Singers of Southwest Baptist University will present “Off the Wall: The Music of the Spheres,” a program of early music on Tuesday, March 27, in the Meyer Wellness Center racquetball courts. The concert is free but seating is limited and reservations are required. The ensemble will present the program twice, at 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

The Chamber Singers is an auditioned ensemble of 17 singers whose repertoire consists of vocal music of the Medieval and Renaissance eras. “The title of our program gives a hint to the audience,” say assistant professor of music, and director of choral studies at SBU, Dr. James Tarrant. “The concert will take place in the only venue in southwest Missouri suitable for this type of music!” adds Dr. Tarrant.

The ensemble will present works from obscure composers such as Landini, Peñalosa, and Gesualdo, chant from anonymous manuscripts, and music from more well-known composers such as Josquin, Palestrina, and Victoria.

For more information or to make reservations, please contact the Department of Music at (417) 328-1644.
