BOLIVAR, Mo. – Charlotte Marsch has
been employed as the new Director of Marketing and Communications at Southwest
Baptist University beginning Jan. 28.
“We are very pleased Charlotte is coming to
work at her alma mater,” SBU President Dr. C. Pat Taylor said. “We’re excited
to find somebody with her experience and connections to the university. And she
not only already knows SBU but the Bolivar community and the southwest Missouri
area, as well.”
Marsch
will be in charge of developing and implementing the university’s marketing
plan and editing printed materials, including the university’s award-winning
alumni magazine, “SBU Life,” as well as media relations.
“We
are looking forward to Charlotte joining the enrollment management team as the
Director of Marketing and Communications,” Vice President
for Enrollment Management Stephanie Miller said. “Developing a strong and compelling
communications strategy which provides an integrated marketing approach is
crucial for recruiting in today’s higher education environment.”
Charlotte
currently is the editor at the Bolivar Herald-Free Press. “There have been only
four editors at the Herald-Free Press in 36 years, and Charlotte has done a
stellar job of anchoring that relay team for the last eight of those years,” Publisher
Dave Berry said. “This departure leaves us with the rare challenge of filling
that vital job at this newspaper, and while I regret facing that challenge, I
can’t help but be pleased for her and her family regarding this opportunity.
Her total of 16 years with us, beginning as Charlotte Highsmith, have prepared
her well for this,” Berry said. “She has earned her reputation here as a fair
journalist, dedicated employee, good leader and strong community advocate.”
Marsch
has served as a board member for the Bolivar Area Chamber of Commerce and been
involved in many community projects during her tenure at the Herald-Free Press.While
a student at SBU, Marsch was editor of the university’s “Mozarkian” yearbook
for two years and worked for the student newspaper, “The Omnibus,” for one
semester.
“I
have enjoyed serving our readers in Polk County for 16 years in a variety of
editorial capacities and will cherish many wonderful memories of my days with
the Herald-Free Press,” Marsch said. “Most importantly, I have enjoyed getting
to meet so many wonderful people throughout Polk County. I will still be
involved in the community but as an advocate for SBU.”
Charlotte
and her husband David, who works in the Information Technology Services
department at SBU, live in Bolivar and have two children: Rachel, 7, and
Gloria, 3.“I
am looking forward to this great opportunity to take the experience I have
gained and once again become part of the SBU family,” Marsch said.
