SBU Student Selected for National Intercollegiate Band

BOLIVAR, Mo. – Southwest Baptist University instrumental music education major, Matthew Hopwood, was recently selected to perform with the National Intercollegiate Band.  The band opens the biennial national convention of the Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma music fraternity and sorority. This year the "Taking Bands to the Summit" convention was held in Colorado Springs, Colo. from July 19-24.

Hopwood performed at the Pikes Peak Center with over 80 college musicians from 50 universities under the baton of Craig Kirchhoff, professor of conducting and director of university bands at the University of Minnesota.  A special feature of this year's concert was the World Premiere of the Kappa Kappa Psi & Tau Beta Sigma commissioned work "Repercussions" with the composer Adam Gorb in attendance. Gorb is Head of School of Composition at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England.

Hopwood, a 2010 graduate of Bolivar High School, is the son of Brian & Franka Hopwood.
