SBU Science Department to Feature Author Fred Heeren

BOLIVAR, Mo. – Southwest Baptist University’s Darrell R. Strait Center for the Integration of Science and Christian Faith will feature Fred Heeren, author of the critically acclaimed book, Show Me God: What the Message from Space is Telling Us About God, as part of the Strait Center’s biannual formal lecture series “Topics on Science and Christian Faith.”
                                                                                                           
The public is invited to attend Heeren’s presentation entitled “Cosmology and Life’s Big Questions” at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, in the Wheeler Science Facility room W101 on SBU’s Bolivar campus. A question and answer session will be provided at the end of the presentation.
                                                                                                                                  
Heeren also will lead science and Christian faith discussions in two Strait Center classes on Tuesday (at 11 a.m.  in Wheeler W123  and at 2 p.m. in Wheeler W102).  He will speak in the SBU Chapel service 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, in Pike Auditorium.
   
Heeren’s book contains first-hand reports about the greatest discoveries in cosmology from the discoverers themselves.  As part of his research, Heeren interviewed Nobel prize-winning astronomers, NASA team leaders, and top theoretical physicists like Stephen Hawking. In addition to its seven printings in English, the book has sold over 100,000 copies in other language versions such as Chinese, Korean, Portugese, and Spanish.  

Heeren is the founder and president of Day Star Ministries, a non-profit ministry devoted to communicating the good news of Jesus Christ to the seekers and skeptics today who are being missed by traditional evangelistic approaches.  His articles have been published in nationally known newspapers, such as The Chicago Tribune, The New York Times Magazine, The Washington Post, and The Wall Street Journal, and in scholarly scientific journals, such as Nature, New Scientist, and The Scientific American.

Heeren is the editor of Cosmic Pursuit magazine, a magazine (sold in Borders, Barnes and Noble, etc.) for seekers and skeptics that explores and debates the ultimate questions raised by science today.  
   
Heeren has been interviewed by over 100 public and secular television and radio programs.  He also has made presentations at multiple USA and international universities, including the University of California at Berkeley, Columbia University (New York), the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champagne), the University of Colorado (Boulder), and was the invited speaker for the Staley Lectures at the University of Mobile (Alabama).  International universities include Universidad del Norte and Universidad de Nuevo Leon (in Mexico), plus Unip Universidade Paulista in Sao Paulo and Campinas State University (in Brazil).

 Heeren lives in Olathe, Kan. and has five children, one of whom graduated from SBU in May 2010.
