SBU’s Bachelor of
Social Work program approved for third year of candidacy
BOLIVAR, Mo. — Southwest Baptist University
received notice this month from the Council on Social Work Education’s Commission on Accreditation
that its Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program has been approved for a third
year of candidacy.
The
fourth site visit will be during the 2013-14 school year as the University
works on Benchmark IV. The commission will vote on full accreditation in June
2014.
"Community
support and the dedication of faculty and administration have made the growth
and continued development of the social work program possible,” said Christine
Saladino, MACE, LMSW, BSW Program director. “I am exceptionally thankful for
those who have been a part of this process."
The
first class of BSW students graduated in May 2013, and the new cohort that is
beginning in the fall is the program’s largest class ever.
The
BSW program at SBU will prepare students for entry-level positions in the
social work field. According to the U.S.
Bureau of Labor statistics, the profession is growing faster than average for
all occupations, especially in the areas of aging and health care services.
There are currently more than 640,000 professional social workers employed in
the United States.
For
more information about the BSW program, contact Saladino at (417) 328-1740 or
