SBU Announces New Vice President for University Relations

BOLIVAR, Mo. – Southwest Baptist University President Dr. C. Pat Taylor announced yesterday that Dr. Brad Johnson, Senior Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Howard Payne University, Brownwood, Texas, has accepted the position of Vice President for University Relations at SBU. Dr. Johnson plans to make his transition from Howard Payne University to SBU later this month.

Originally from Lazbuddie, Texas, Dr. Johnson spent his growing up years on the family farm where he enjoyed working with his dad and granddad. 

Upon high school graduation he attended Baylor University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in education.  He earned two masters’ degrees, a Master of Arts in religious education and Master of Arts in marriage and family counseling, from a dual-degree program at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.  In 2005, he earned a Doctor of Education from Baylor University.  He is licensed by the state of Texas as a professional counselor.

Dr. Johnson has worked in financial aid and admissions at Howard Payne, McMurry University in Abilene, Texas, and Hardin Simmons University.  In 2003, he returned to Howard Payne as Vice President for Enrollment and Student Services.  In 2010, he was promoted to Senior Vice President for Institutional Advancement.

Among his hobbies, Dr. Johnson enjoys reading, outdoor activities, and traveling.  However, Dr. Johnson most enjoys spending time with his wife, Laura, six year-old son Evan, and four-year old daughter Elle. 

Dr. Johnson and his family have been members of the First Baptist Church in Brownwood where he has served as a Sunday school teacher and chairman of the deacon body.  Something unique about Dr. Johnson is that he enjoys collecting toy tractors. 
Dr. Taylor said, “I have known Brad for approximately ten years, and I am very pleased that he has chosen to join the SBU family.”
