BOLIVAR, Mo. – Southwest Baptist University’s Department of Computer and Information Sciences (CIS) recently made details available regarding senior projects for the year. Fourteen seniors will be working on five projects sponsored by several leading companies, including Accenture-Duck Creek, the largest employer of SBU CIS Department graduates.

“This is a big year for us,” said Dr. Tim DeClue, chair of the CIS Department. “These are ambitious projects, but we have an incredible group of seniors this year. I am extremely excited about the experiences this group of seniors are going to have this year. It is a blessing to get to work with them.”

Senior projects are an annual event for students majoring in computer science, computer information science or web systems and design. Over the course of their senior year, students in the CIS Department will develop a commercial-quality application for end-users working in faith-based companies, not-for-profit charities, and leading American companies.

Projects for the 2012-13 academic year include a mobile application for park directors at Silver Dollar City (Branson, Mo.) who want to see real-time data related to park operations; a meeting manager for employees of VML (Kansas City, Mo.), the 12th largest advertising company in North America; a communication monitoring system for Global Media Outreach (San Jose, Calif.); a system for BNSF (Topeka, Kan.) to manage the collection and maintenance of data pertaining to environmental department assets positioned across the 28 states and two Canadian provinces; and a .NET based testing tool for quality assurance at Accenture-Duck Creek (Bolivar, Mo.).

SBU’s Department of Computer and Information Sciences houses four full-time faculty members, two faculty associates and close to ninety students majoring in the computer or information sciences.  Among evangelically Christian institutions, SBU is one of the leading producers of software engineers in the United States.
